Ricky Holden took the reins as head coach of the Claflin University Lady Panthers softball program in the spring of 2024, bringing with him a proven commitment to leadership, player development, and competitive excellence. Recognized as one of the emerging voices in collegiate softball, Holden has rapidly elevated the Lady Panthers program while honoring its tradition within the CIAA.
In just his first two seasons, Holden guided Claflin to significant conference success, highlighted by the 2025 CIAA Southern Division Championship and CIAA Tournament Runner-Up finishes in both 2024 and 2025. The Lady Panthers have consistently competed at the top of the conference, producing multiple CIAA All-Conference selections and earning numerous academic achievement honors, underscoring Holden’s emphasis on accountability, discipline, and academic success.
Holden began his collegiate coaching career at North Carolina A&T State University, where he served as an assistant coach and contributed to recruiting, player development, and overall program operations. His experience at the Division I level provided valuable insight into building sustainable and competitive programs.
Prior to coaching, Holden served in the United States Air Force in Security Forces, where he developed leadership and organizational skills that continue to shape his coaching philosophy. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Connecting Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to youth mentorship and community engagement.
With coaching experience dating back to 2016, Holden has worked extensively at the high school and 16U/18U AAU travel softball levels. His background as a former center fielder during his military service adds to his comprehensive understanding of the game.
Holden holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Westwood College and earned his master’s degree from North Carolina Central University.
