Tabitha Monroe joined Claflin University as its Senior Associate Director of Athletics in February of 2026. With a wealth of experience in numerous areas, including athletic administration, compliance, and operational leadership, she is poised to aid in guiding Claflin University athletics’ next stage of elevation and transformation.
Monroe came to Claflin University after serving as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) at Shaw University. Entering her fifth season with the Bears’ athletic department, Monroe provided strategic oversight of NCAA compliance efforts while serving as a key member of the department’s senior leadership team. In this role, she supported departmental governance, student-athlete welfare initiatives, and institutional compliance across all sports.
Prior to her role as Associate Athletic Director, Monroe served as Special Administrative Assistant to the Athletic Director, a position she assumed in 2021. During that time, she managed the athletic office and oversaw daily departmental operations, including budget coordination, team travel, compliance support, and serving as Director of Operations for all sports.
A native of Jacksonboro, South Carolina, Monroe joined Shaw’s athletic staff in 2020 as a Graduate Assistant for the men’s basketball program while pursuing her master’s degree. Her responsibilities included team management, player development, and game preparation, providing a strong foundation for her future administrative roles.
Monroe’s career in collegiate athletics began in 2018 as head manager for the South Carolina State University men’s basketball program, where she managed daily operations, team logistics, equipment oversight, and facility management from 2018 to 2020.
Monroe holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Pre-Law) with a minor in Spanish from South Carolina State University and earned a Master of Arts in Christian Leadership from Shaw University in January 2024.
In her new role at Claflin University, Monroe will play a key leadership role in advancing the university’s athletic programs, ensuring compliance excellence, and supporting the holistic development of student-athletes.
