Claflin Men's Basketball Team Defeats West Florida, 82-78, for Second Straight Win

Pensacola, Fla.—Carlton Johnson scored a game-high 21 points, 16 in the second half, as the Claflin University men's basketball team defeated the University of West Florida (UWF) by four, 82-78, to pick up its second straight win of the season.  With the win, the Panthers improve to .500 on the season at 2-2.  The contest was the first-of-two for Claflin in the UWF Thanksgiving Tournament which is being contested at the UWF Fieldhouse.
 
Claflin had three players to score in double-figures as Kendall Jackson tallied 16 points, 10 in the first half, and Arthur Talley contributed 13 in the contest.  Talley also led the Panthers in rebounding with eight.  Montel Williams, who shot a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc, dropped in nine points and Fare 'al Walker pulled in six rebounds for Claflin. 
 
Erin Straughn and Terrence Townes paced UWF with 19 points.  Demetrius Moore recorded a double-double 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds and Lendward Griffin added 13 points as the Argonauts fell to 4-1 on the season.
 
The Panthers will play North Georgia in their final game of the tournament, tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. (CST).
 
Game Note:  The Panthers led by six at the half (35-29)…Shot 47.1 percent from the field, 45 percent from 3-pt range and 77.8 percent from the charity stripe.
