Claflin University Honors Student-Athletes at Annual Athletics Banquet

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University department of athletics honored more than 100 athletes in eight different sports at its Annual Athletics Award Thursday evening, Apr. 17 at the Jonas T. Kennedy Physical Education Center on the campus of Claflin University.
 
Students received honors and achievements for excelling in their respective sports and as well as in the academic arena.
 
Athelete of the Year
Receiving the top awards as the Male and Female Athlete of the Year, was senior Dennis Bain a member of the men's track and field team who hails from the Bahamas and junior Caleen Hawkins a junior from Blythewood, S.C. who is a
Scholar Athlete of the Year
member of the women's volleyball team.
 
The award for the Scholar Athletes of the Year was also handed out to the male and female student-athlete who achieved the highest grade point average amongst all student-athletes.  The recipient of the awards was Babatunde Sanusi (So., Lithonia, Ga.) a dual athlete from men's basketball and men's track and field and Caitlyn Marsh (Jr., Fallon, Nev.) from the women's volleyball team.
 
In addition, several student-athletes were awarded the Timothy J. Autry All-Academic Team gold, silver and bronze medals for achieving a 3.0 or better.
 
The awards for softball along with men's and women's outdoor track and field will be handed out at a later date once their seasons are completed.
