Claflin Men Falls to Morehouse College in Closing Seconds

Orangeburg, S.C.--The Claflin University men's basketball fell to the Morehouse Maroon Tigers by two, 56-58, Saturday in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game at Tullis Arena.  With the loss, Claflin fall to 8-10 overall and one below .500 in the SIAC at 4-5.
 
The contest came down to the final seconds, as Morehouse's Michael Hall tipped-in basket a missed free-throw by teammate Michael Scott with one second remaining in the game. 
 
After the made bucket, Claflin took two timeouts prior to the ball being put back into play, but was unable to get off a shot as time expired.
 
The Panthers, who owned a one point half-time lead (24-23), trailed most of the second half until Patrell Rogers drilled a three-pointer with 6:52 remaining, to put them ahead by two, 51-48. Claflin maintained the lead thru the remainder of the second half until a made free-throw by the Scott tied the game at 56-56 with 1.5 remaining.
 
Adolph Caldwell led the Panthers offensively with 12 points. Kendall Jackson added 10 points while Arthur Talley and Ryan McNeill-Moses finished with points eight points each in the loss.  Reginald Baptiste had a productive outing, scoring six points with a game-high 10 rebounds, six offensive.

Morehouse, now 9-6 overall and 7-1 in conference play, was led in scoring by Tyrone Brown with 12 points. Javarius Gay had 11 points and seven rebounds while Tyrius Walker added 10 points in the win.
 
Claflin will hit the road for its next two games, beginning Monday, Jan. 26 when they travel to Albany, Ga. to take on the Golden Rams of Albany State.  The Panthers will then head to Fort Valley, Ga. next Thursday, Jan. 29 to face Fort Valley State.
 
Game Notes: Claflin outrebounded the much-taller Morehouse team 40-33 with 19 coming on the defensive end…Claflin shot just 37 percent from the field (4-of-17 from three-point range).
