Claflin Panthers Defeats Albany State, 69-58, in a SIAC Men’s Basketball Matchup

Albany, Ga.—The Claflin University men's basketball team defeated Albany State, 69-58, in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball (SIAC) match-up in the ASU HPER Gymnasium.  Win the win, the Panthers improves to 9-10 overall and 6-4 in the SIAC.
 
Albany State began the game very aggressive, jumping out to an 8-3 lead over the first eight minutes of the contest.  The Golden Rams pushed their lead to 11, 11-22, with 6:35 remaining, but then the Panthers offense came to life.  Claflin used an 8-0 run to decrease the gap to three, 19-22, with 4:28 left in the half.  The Panthers closed the half with an 11-5 run to take the three point lead into the locker room at the half, 30-27.
 
Claflin maintained control of the game throughout the second half, pushing their lead to 12, 49-37, by the midway point and as many as 14 twice.  Albany State managed to pull within eight, 58-66, with 2:03 remaining but could not get any closer.  The Panthers scored the last five-of-eight points en route to the 11 point victory.
 
Ryan McNeill-Moses continued to play solid for Claflin, recording a double-double, 18 points-10 rebounds.  Carlton Johnson came off the bench to score 13 points while Fare'al Walker contributed six points with nine rebounds off the bench for the Panthers in the win.
 
Larry Bullock and Jeremy Whitmore scored in double-figures for the Golden Rams with 18 and 12, respectively.  Demetri Wheeler pulled in eight rebounds for Albany State who fell to 6-11 overall and 2-7 in the SIAC.  
 
The Panthers will travel to Fort Valley, Ga. on Thursday, Jan. 29, to take on the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University in a SIAC matchup.
