Claflin Men’s Basketball Opens 2015-16 Season with a Road Win Over Millersville

Millersville, Pa.—Junior guard Patrell Rogers hit the second-of-two free-throws with one second remaining to give the Claflin University men's basketball a one-point road win over Millersville University in its 2015-16 season opener.  The contest was also the season opener for the Marauders.

Junior Trevor Dantzler led three Claflin players in double-figures with 14.  Senior Adolph "AJ" Caldwell and freshman Triston Thompson dropped in 13 points apiece for the Panthers.  Senior Karee Watson and red-shirt freshman was solid on the boards for Claflin pulling in nine and seven, respectively.
The teams exchanged baskets for much of the second half, with Millersville owning the largest lead of the half, eight (37-46), with 14:06 remaining.  The Panthers offensive then picked up over the next four minutes, going on a 12-2 run to take a 49-47 lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the contest.  The teams exchanged leads over the final nine minutes, with neither team owning more than a one-point advantage, with the Panthers coming away with the one point win.
The first half of the contest was a see-saw affair with six ties and two lead changes.  The teams, which batted from the tip, were knotted at 30-30 at intermission in the game that saw a total of five ties and six lead changes. 
Millersville was led by Shawn Williams with 14 points.  Cornell Yarde dropped in 13 and Demerik Weglinsi recorded a double-double, 11 points-13 rebounds for the Marauders in the loss.

Claflin will host Augusta University (formerly Georgia Regents University) on Wednesday, Nov. 18 in its 2015-16 home opener.  Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. in Tullis Arena. The Panthers will then host the College of the Bahamas in their homecoming game (Nov. 21) before returning to the road for the next six contests.
