Caldwell and Rogers leads Claflin past Augusta in Collegiate Men’s Basketball

Orangeburg, S.C. – Adolph Caldwell scored four points in the closing seconds and Patrell Rogers added two late free-throws as the Claflin University Panthers prevailed over Augusta University, 66-62, Wednesday night at the Tullis Arena.  The win moves the Panthers to 2-0 on the season.
 
It was Caldwell, a senior shooting guard, back-to-back baskets that broke a 60-60 tie to put the Panthers ahead by four, 64-60, with 17 seconds left.
 
After a score by Augusta which cut Claflin's lead to 64-62 with eight seconds remaining, Rogers was fouled. The junior guard made good, sinking both free-throws with seven seconds left.  Rogers finish as the top scorer for the Panthers with 16 points followed by Caldwell with 15 points, including three three-pointers.
 
The Panthers were perfect from the charity stripe, down the stretch, hitting 12-of-12 in the final six minutes. Claflin finished the game 22-of-27.
 
Ryan McNeill-Moses finished the game with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. Austin Lawton came off the bench to score eight first-half points along with four rebounds.
 
Claflin led 35-27 at the half.
 
Augusta, 0-1, was led by Sherrill Keshun with a game-high 18 points and Tommy Williams with 16.
 
Claflin will return to the court Saturday against the College of Bahama for homecoming. The contest is slated for 3:00 p.m. at the Tullis Arena.
