Claflin Falls to Kentucky Wesleyan in Baseball Doubleheader

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University baseball team fell to Kentucky Wesleyan, 2-7 and 10-13, NCAA Division II non-conference baseball double-header Saturday at the Historic Mirmow Field.  The loss drops Claflin to 1-1 on the season.  The sweep improves Kentucky Wesleyan to 3-2 for the season.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan scored in five of seven innings played in Game One. They put up two runs in the second and third and one in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth en route to its seven runs.  Jalen Thompson led off the sixth inning with a homerun to get Claflin on the board.  Reginald Rogers scored the Panthers only other run in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Darius Boykins (0-1) took the loss for Claflin, going the distance allowing seven hits, four walks and striking out five.
 
Matt Pobereyko pitched six strong innings in picking up the win for Kentucky Wesleyan 2. Pobereyko (1-0) held Claflin to three hits while striking out seven.
 
Johnathan Eberhardt, Troy Paris and Chad Klein each hit home runs for Kentucky Wesleyan.
 
In the Game Two of the twin bill, Kentucky Wesleyan won 13-10 in nine innings.
 
Claflin rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Rashad Bivens, who had two hits, provided the big blow with a three-run double.
Harold Smith had two hits that included a solo home run. Johnny Stevenson collected three hits and 3 RBIs, followed by Hilton with a hit and 2 RBIs and Jabari Brown with two hits.
 
Claflin totaled 11 hits in the game.
 
Demitrius Bryant (0-1) suffered the loss for Claflin while Justin Kittel (1-0) was the winning pitcher for Kentucky Wesleyan.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan was by Dennon Koziol and Eberhardt with a home run each. Both players also drove in two runs apiece.  Kyle Emig had 3 RBIs.
 
The two teams will square off in the series finale tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at Historic Mirmow Field.
