Claflin Goes 1-2 in Weekend Softball Conference Series with Clark-Atlanta

Atlanta, Ga. (Apr. 11-12) —The Claflin University softball team went 1-2 this past weekend in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Series with Clark-Atlanta.  The Lady Panthers dropped the doubleheader on Saturday, 3-7 and 16-17 and won the final game of the series on Sunday, 13-4 in five innings.  After the series, the Panthers sit at 17-14 overall and 7-9 in the SIAC.
 
Senior Markea Sheppard and junior transfer Courtney Burns were the bright spots for Claflin over the course of the weekend.  Sheppard finished the series 5-of-9 (including two homeruns), with three walks, four runs, and 10 RBI's.  Burns went 7-of 10 (including a homerun) with two walks, seven runs and four RBI's.  Collectively the Lady Panthers totaled 45 hits with 34 runs and 27 RBI's.
 
On the mound, Nyesha Arnold went 1-1 dropping game one of Saturday's doubleheader and picking up the win on Sunday.  Burns, who went 6.1 innings in game two, was credited with the loss in game two of the doubleheader.
 
Claflin is slated to host North Greenville, tomorrow, Tuesday, Apr. 14 in its final non-conference doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. with the second game starting at approximately 6 p.m. at the Adden Street Field in Orangeburg.
