Claflin Eliminated from SIAC Tournament by Miles College

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Claflin University Panthers were eliminated from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) baseball tournament, losing 9-7, to the Golden Bears of Miles College Sunday at Capital City Stadium. With the loss, the Panthers end their season with an18-29 overall record.
 
Miles (18-26), advanced to face Tuskegee in its second elimination game of the day.
 
Claflin trailed 2-0 after an inning of play.  In the top of the second, the Panthers cut the lead in half when Johnny Stevenson belted a solo home run over the left field wall. The Golden Bears added a run in their half of the second for a 3-1 lead.
 
In the third, the Panthers took their only lead of the game at 4-3. Jalen Thompson produced the first run with a ground out to shortstop that scored Reginald Rogers from third base.  Later in the inning, Sixto Guerrero provided two additional runs ripping a two-out double that drove home Rashad Bivens and Jabari Brown. The scoring threat ended as Jesse Minter flied out to centerfield for the third out.
 
Miles regained the lead at 5-4 with two runs in its bottom half of the inning.  The Golden Bears followed with three additional runs in the fifth to lead 8-4.
 
In the sixth, Stevenson drove in Minter with an RBI double as the Panthers reduced the Miles lead to 8-5. 
 
The Golden Bears pushed the margin back to four, 9-5 in the sixth.
 
Claflin rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh but could not get any closer. 
 
Brown had three hits to lead Claflin.  The Panthers finished game with 10 hits but had four errors.  Wendell Ferguson took the loss for Claflin.
 
Christopher Elias picked up the win for Miles.
 
Miles was led at the plate by Jimmy Brown, Aaron Williams and Xavier Burden with two RBIs each.
