Claflin Sweeps Fayetteville State in Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team swept Fayetteville State, 6-5 and 6-3, in a non-conference doubleheader at the Adden Street Field in Orangeburg.  With the wins, the Lady Panthers improved to 16-12 overall.  The Broncos dropped to 11-9 overall.
 
Sophomore Chelsea Hall, who leads the nation in runs per game and stolen bases, went three-for-six with, three runs (one homerun), three RBI's and three stolen bases.  Junior transfer Courtney Burns went four-for-seven with three runs.  Burns also picked up a save in game two.  Senior Markea Sheppard went a perfect two-for-two with a homerun and three RBI's in game two.  Freshman Nyesha Arnold picked up the wins in both games for the Lady Panthers.
 
Fayetteville State was led by Shi-Cara Goins who went three-for-four with one run and two RBI's in game one.  Shae Barnes went three-for-six with two runs on the day for the Broncos.  Carley Green was the loser of game one and Zoe Howard was credited with the loss in game two.
 
Claflin will return to action next Tuesday, Apr. 7 when they host Johnson C. Smith University in a non-conference doubleheader.  First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. with the second game starting at approximately 5 p.m. at Adden Street Field in Orangeburg.
