Claflin Falls to Augusta in Men’s Basketball Non-conference Matchup

Augusta, Ga.—The Claflin University men's basketball team dropped its second straight, falling to Augusta University, 65-56, in a non-conference matchup in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
 
The loss puts the Panthers at 0-2 on the early season.  Augusta opened improved to 3-0.
 
Red-shirt sophomore Austin Lawton scored 15 points, 10 in the first half, to pace the Panthers.  Lawton also had five rebounds and one block in the contest.
 
Senior Ryan McNeill-Mosses had 11 points with seven rebounds while junior transfer Tyler Thompson came off the bench to contribute six points, including four-of-four from the charity stripe, and five rebounds
 
Augusta was led by Keshun Sherrill who scored a game-high 35 points, connecting on 13-of-14 from the line.  Deane Williams recorded a double-double, 13 points-12 rebounds, and Kyle Doyle had six points off the bench.
 
Augusta, who took its first lead with 4:51 remaining in the first half, owned a 30-26 lead at the half.
 
Claflin will return to action on this Saturday, Nov. 19 when they host Fayetteville State University for Homecoming.  Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. in Tullis arena on the campus of Claflin University.
