Claflin Falls to Morehouse by Two, 78-76, in a SIAC MBB Contest

Atlanta, Ga.—The Claflin University men's basketball fell to Morehouse College by two, 78-76, in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) contest in Atlanta, Ga.  The loss, which snapped a four-game win streak, drops the Panthers to 11-11 overall and 7-7 in the SIAC.
 
Morehouse improves to 12-5 overall and 8-4 in the SIAC.
 
Ryan McNeill-Moses led the Panthers with 22 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.  Adolph Caldwell came off the bench to score 13 points and Karee Watson rounded out the double-digit scorers for Claflin.  Watson also led the Panthers on the boards with seven.
 
Ayinde Russell scored a game-high 24 points and Michael Hall recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Michael Scott scored 12 points for the Maroon Tigers in the win.
 
Claflin scored the first basket of the second half and continued to push taking a four-point lead, 52-48, with just under 13 minutes remaining in the game.  Two free-throws by Patrell Rogers gave Claflin its biggest lead of six, 54-48, with 10:32 left in the contest.  Morehouse used a 6-0 run to tie the game at 54-all at the 9:23 left.  A layup by Caldwell broke the tie give the Panthers the two point advantage with 8:09 remaining.  After three ties over the next five-plus minutes, Russell hit the second of two free-throws for the Maroon Tigers' to give them the one point lead, 65-64, at the 3:47 mark.  Anthony Farrar then connected on two-of-three free-throws to push the lead to 67-64.  The teams exchanged leads before Morehouse took the final lead and the victory at 78-76.
 
The teams exchanged baskets of the first eight minutes of the game with neither team taking more than a three point advantage.  Morehouse managed to push the lead to six, 25-19, but Claflin picked up its offensive intensity.  The Panthers used a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to one, 26-27, with 4:43 remaining in the half.  The Maroon Tigers pushed its lead back up to six, 39-33, before closing the half up by four, 39-34.
 
Claflin will host Paine on Monday, Feb. 8 in a 7:30 p.m. SIAC contest.  It will be Orange and Maroon Spirit Night in Tullis Arena.  All fans are encouraged to wear orange and maroon in support of the Panthers.
