Claflin Sweeps Clark Atlanta in SIAC Baseball Series

Orangeburg, S.C. – Claflin University and Clark Atlanta wrapped up their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) three-game series Sunday with a 16-2 win over Clark Atlanta at Historic Mirmow Field.
 
With the series sweep, Claflin lifted its season record to 11-19 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
 
For the second straight game the Panthers posted double-digits hits with 15.  For the series, the Panthers collected 36 hits and 33 runs off six Clark Atlanta pitchers.  The hit total is a season high for a three-game series for Claflin.
 
Christopher Gilliam led the Panthers offensive explosion with a pair of home runs and six RBIs.  McKinley Leverette drove in three runs off three hits that included a home run. Jalen Thompson and Jabari Brown went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs each.
 
Dillon Parker, the winner pitcher, combined with four other pitchers to hold Clark Atlanta to eight hits and two runs.
 
Ryan Betts was the losing pitcher for Clark Atlanta.
 
In Saturday's doubleheader, the Panthers defeated Clark Atlanta 4-1 and 13-3 in Games One and Two, respectively. 
 
Lyndale Morley and Jamal Devine had impressive outings on the mound for Claflin, picking up the wins in Games One and Two, respectively. Collectively, the Panthers offense pounded out 21 hits on the day.  In the first game of the day, Morley held Clark Atlanta in check allowing on four hits in going the distance.  He struck out three batters with no walks in the win.
 
The Panthers were led at the plate by Rashad Bivens and Reginald Rogers who both knocked out RBI doubles in Game One.  Jalen Thompson had two hits including a triple in the contest.
 
Jezreel Moore was the losing pitcher for Clark Atlanta in Game One.
 
The Panthers offense picked up even more the second game, as their bats came alive to knock out 16 hits in the rout.  Claflin blew the game open with a six-run second after scoring four in the opening frame. The Panthers led 10-2 at that point.
 
Devine pitched five innings, allowing five hits, before giving away to Emmanuel Mitchell who pitched the final two innings.
 
Leading Claflin at the plate were Jeturi Brown, Elliott Melton and Rogers with three hits and 3 RBI's each.  Rashad Hilton added two hits and 2 RBI's in the win.
 
Michael Haywood, Jr. was the losing pitcher for Clark Atlanta in Game Two.
 
Claflin will take to the road for four games, starting Tuesday in Greenwood against Lander University. The Panthers will then travel to Atlanta this weekend for a three-game SIAC series against Morehouse College.
