Claflin University Splits Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader with Columbia College

Columbia, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team split a non­conference doubleheader with Columbia College, winning Game One 5-6 and falling in Game Two 5-3, today, March 24, at the Sutton Softball Field in Columbia.
 
With the split, the Lady Panthers record goes to 17-18 on the season.
 
Claflin scored five runs off six hits to open the scoring in Game One.  The Lady Panthers maintained their lead until the bottom of the second, when Columbia College offense picked up.  The Koala's put up three runs off two hits and two Claflin errors to cut the lead to two, 5-3.  Columbia College put up an additional run in the bottom of the third to trim the deficit to one, 5-4.  Both teams put up one run in the final inning of the contest.
 
Kayla Cato had a three run homerun for Claflin in the win. Courtney Burns also had a homerun in the contest.  Nyesha Arnold finished the game with three hits. 
 
Tiaria Norman pitched a complete game to pick up the win.  Valeria Caballero was the losing pitcher for
 
Columbia College jumped out to a two run lead by the bottom of the first inning.  The Koala's offense remained solid over the first three innings as they put up two additional runs in the bottom of the third to take the 4-0 lead.  Claflin remained poised, putting up three runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to one, 4-3.  Columbia College scored one run in the bottom of the six to push its lead to two, 5-3, the margin of victory.
 
Jamelah Thomas scored one run with three hits and Kaela Robinson knocked out two hits in the loss.
 
Yemaya Rich was the losing pitcher in Game Two.  Anna Davis picked up the win for Columbia College in the win.
 
The Lady Panthers will host Edward Waters this Saturday, March 26 in a 1 p.m. doubleheader before hitting the road for its next two contests.
