Claflin Sweeps Shaw in Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader

Raleigh, N.C.—The Claflin University softball team swept Shaw University, 10-8 and 10-1, in its final non-conference doubleheader of the season.  With the wins the Lady Panthers improves to 21-18 on the season.
 
Shaw drops to 6-21 overall.
 
Kayla Cato and Courtney Burns were the offensive heroes today as they combined for nine Claflin 23 hits on the day.   Cato finished the doubleheader with five runs, five hits, including one double and one triple, and four RBI's.  Burns knocked out five runs with four hits, three doubles, and five RBI's.
 
As a team, the Lady Panthers had 18 total RBI's.
 
On the mound, the pitching duo of Shaquailla German and Tiaria Norman picked up the wins for the Lady Panthers in Games One and Two, respectively
 
German came in relief to pitch four innings giving up three unearned runs against 18 batters face.  Norman pitched all six innings in Game Two, allowing just two runs with 11 strikeouts and two walks against 22 batters faced.
 
Claflin will return to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play this weekend, Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 2-3, when they host Fort Valley State University.  First pitch for Saturday's single game is set for 5 p.m. while Sunday's doubleheader is set to get underway at 1 p.m.
