Claflin Advance to the Championship Game of the SIAC Baseball Tournament

Panthers Defeat Stillman 9-6 in Semi-final

Ozark, Ala.—Lyndale Morley pitched all nine innings and allowed just six runs (5 earned) against 44 batters faced as the Claflin University baseball team defeated Stillman, 9-6, to advance to the Championship Game of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) tournament.  This marks the first time that the Panthers have reached the championship game since joining the SIAC in the 2008-09 season.
 
With the win, Claflin improves to 23-27 on the season.
 
The teams were tied 2-2 after three complete and again at 5-5 after five.  Claflin snapped the tie scoring one run in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good.  The Panthers tacked on three more in the top of the seventh to push its advantage to 8-5.  Stillman managed to score one run in the bottom of the seventh but could not get any additional runs, thus falling by the three-run margin.
 
"It feels good, to advance to the championship game," head coach James Randall said.  "The guys have played well this tournament and it's all coming together at the right time.  We have to stay focused because we still have one more to go."
 
Rashad Bivens and Jeturi Brown were the offensive leaders for Claflin.  Bivens had two runs and three hits, including a double while Brown also had two runs with two hits including a double.  Brown added a walk and two stolen bases to his stat line.
 
Reginald Rogers who walked twice in the contest scored two runs and Jalen Thompson had three hits with two RBI's for Claflin, who finished the game with nine total hits.
 
Stillman was led by Hank Parker who had two runs with two hits.  Zach Gonzalez was the losing pitcher of record.
 
The championship game is set for a 3 p.m. (CST) first pitch at Historic Eagle Stadium in Ozark, Ala.
