Claflin Splits with Edward Waters in its Final Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team split its final non-conference doubleheader with Edward Waters falling in Game One 7-3 and winning Game Two 9-5.
 
Claflin (25-19) found limited offense in Game One of the doubleheader.  The Lady Panthers managed just three runs off nine hits over the seven inning contest. 
 
Edward Waters put up one run in the first, two in the third and four in the fourth in route to its four run Game One victory.
 
Kayla Cato scored two runs with two hits, including a double, to lead the Claflin in Game One.  LaKaylin Lee was credited with the loss for the Lady Panthers in the loss.
 
The Lady Panthers scored one run in the first, four in the second and two in the third to jump ahead 7-1 in Game Two.  Edward Waters' offensive intensity picked up as they scored one run in the top of the fourth and four in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to two, 7-5, heading into the bottom of the fifth. Claflin put up two runs in its half of the four to push its lead four, 9-5, the margin of victory.
 
Jamelah Thomas was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI's to lead the Lady Panthers in the win. Shaquailla German picked up the win and Tiaria Norman earned the save in the contest.
 
Claflin will host Clark-Atlanta this Friday and Saturday, Apr. 8 and 9 in their final SIAC home series of the season.  First pitch for Friday's contest is set for 5 p.m.  Saturday's doubleheader will get underway at 2 p.m.  Saturday's contest will also be senior day with senior day activities taking place between games one and two.
