Williams Hit Game-Winner to Lift Claflin Over Winston-Salem State

Winston-Salem, N.C. -- Benjamin "Tre" Williams drained a three-pointer with two seconds left as the Claflin University Panthers came-from-behind to defeat Winston-Salem State University 73-70 in a non-conference basketball game on Monday.
 
With the win, Claflin runs its season record to 9-1 and extended its consecutive winning streak to eight games, including seven straight on the road.
 
The Panthers rallied from a 20-point second-half deficit to get back into the game. Winston-State held a comfortable 51-31 lead with 15:48 left in the game.
 
Over the next 11 minutes, the Panthers would go on a scoring spree, racking up 35 points to just 16 for the Rams. When the dust cleared Claflin had pulled to within one, 67-66 with 4:24 left.  The Panthers tied the game at 71-all with 1:28 remaining.  The teams exchanged baskets until Williams' three-pointer.
 
Williams finished the game 16 points, five rebounds and four steals.
 
Jaleel Charles led the Panthers scoring with a career-high of 29 points, 11 coming in the first half. He was 9-of-12 from the field to go with nine rebounds.
 
Austin Lawton added 13 points and blocked four shots before fouling out.
 
William Crandell led Winston-Salem State, now 2-9, with 16 points.
 
Winston-Salem State held a 35-26 lead at the half.
 
The Panthers will return to action this Saturday, Dec. 9 when they host Saint Augustine's University in a non-conference matchup.  The time for Saturday's game has been changed from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
