Claflin Softball Split Non-Conference Doubleheader with Saint Augustine’s

Lady Panthers Host Columbia College in Non-Conference Doubleheader Friday

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader Thursday (Feb. 16) with Saint Augustine's University, winning game one 8-6 and falling in game two 6-5.  The split pushes the Lady Panthers even at 4-4.
 
Claflin will return to action on Friday, Feb. 17, when they host Columbia College, in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. at the Adden Street Field.  Game two will follow approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
 
In game one, Claflin knocked out five hits with five RBIs and 13 walks.
 
Shaquailla German, who pitched a complete game in picking up the win, paced the Lady Panthers. German was also effective at the plate, going 3-for-4 including a double and a homerun.  She also scored three runs and had three RBIs.
 
Chelsea Hall continued to play well on the short season scoring two runs with two stolen bases.
 
Saint Augustine's was led in game one by Haili Pettifer who went 2-for-4 with a run.
 
The loser of game one was Korey Hill.
 
Claflin and Saint Augustine's were even in the hit column in game two with nine apiece. 
 
Kayla Cato and Kayla Sanderson had two hits each to lead the Lady Panthers.  Cato finished game two with one run while Sanderson added a RBI to her stat line.
 
Saint Augustine's was led in game two by Makayla August who had two hits, with one run, and a RBI.
 
Nyesha Arnold, who entered in relief, was the losing pitcher for Claflin while August picked up the win for Saint Augustine's.
 
After Fridays' game, Claflin will return to action next Thursday, Feb. 23, when they host Edward Waters in a non-conference doubleheader.
