Claflin Splits Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader with Columbia College

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Columbia College, winning Game One 10-2 in six innings and falling in Game Two 12-3 in six innings.
 
With the split, the Lady Panthers go to 5-5 on the short season.
 
After allowing Columbia College to score one run in each of the first two innings, Claflin defense took charge.  The Lady Panthers held the Kolas scoreless over in the final four innings of the shorten game.
 
Claflin scored in five of the six innings en route to its 10 runs.  The Lady Panthers scored one in the first and fifth, two in the second and sixth and four in the third.
 
Chelise Morman paced Claflin in Game One, finishing with two hits, back-to-back homeruns, with one walk and two RBIs.
 
Kayla Cato added three runs and Tiaria Norman also recorded multiple runs with two in the game.
 
Tiaria Norman pitched a complete game to pick up the win.  Valeria Caballero was the losing pitcher for Columbia College (1-1).
 
Columbia College jumped out to a two run lead by the bottom of the first inning. 
 
After holding the Koala's scoreless in the second inning, the Lady Panthers scored one run in their half of the second to cut the deficit to one.
 
Columbia College scored two runs in the third and fourth and allowed Claflin just two runs over the two innings to push the lead to 6-3.
 
The Kolas scored one run in the fifth and five in the sixth while holding the Lady Panthers scoreless over the final two innings en route to the nine run win.
 
Cato led Claflin in Game Two with two runs and one hit.
 
Columbia College was led by Rebecca Prosser in game two with two hits, three runs and one RBI.
 
Yemaya Rich was the losing pitcher in Game Two.  Morgan Smith picked up the win for Columbia College.
 
Claflin will host Edward Waters on Thursday, Feb. 23, in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
