Claflin Drops Final Game of Baseball Series to Florida Southern

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University baseball team dropped the final game of the three game series with Florida Southern College (FSC), Sunday (Feb. 19), falling to the Mocs 15-2, at Historic Mirmow Field.

With the loss the Panthers fall to 1-10 on the season.

FSC improves to 8-2 overall.

Lyndale Morley had three of Claflin seven hits to lead the way.  Morley also crossed the plate once in the game.

Rashad Bivens had one hit, a homerun, for the Panthers with two RBIs.

FSC was led by Christian Maglich who went 4-for-5 with four runs, including two homeruns, and three RBIs.

The Mocs got on the board first as Maglich hit a two run homer with two outs in the top of the second.

After being held scoreless, in the second and third, the Mocs put up five runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.

FSC put up a run in the top of the sixth but the Panthers defense held strong in the top of the seventh.

With one out and one on in the bottom of the seventh, Rashad Bivens hit a two run homer to centerfield to put the Panthers on the board.

The Mocs put up eight additional runs in the top of the eighth and held Claflin scoreless over the final two innings in route to the 13-point victory.

Claflin will have little time to regroup as the Panthers play host to Armstrong State University this Tuesday, Feb. 21.  First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Historic Mirmow Field in Orangeburg.
