Claflin Baseball Drops Non-Conference Decision to Florida Memorial

Orangeburg, S.C. (2-6-17) – The Claflin University baseball team fell to Florida Memorial, 19-5, in a non-conference contest at Historic Mirmow Field in Orangeburg on Monday (Feb. 6). 
 
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 0-4 to open the 2017 season.
 
Florida Memorial improves to 1-3 on the short season.
 
Senior Johnny Stevens came off the bench in the bottom of the eight to hit a homerun in his first at-bat of the game.
 
Seniors Rashad Bivens and Jeturi Brown had solid outings on the day.
 
Bivens went 2-for-4 with one run and four assists while Brown went 3-for-3, including a double, with two runs and 10 putouts in the contest.
 
Lincoln Memorial was led by Timmy Wages who a double and a homerun with eight RBIs.  Logan Augustine went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the win.
 
Wages was also effective on the mound going five innings, allowing just three runs (two earned) en route to picking up the win.
 
Chris Buford, who was credited with the loss, went one inning and allowed five earned runs and four hits.
 
Claflin will get some much needed rest before returning back to action.  The Panthers will play back-to-back doubleheaders with St. Augustine's this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11 and 12.  Saturday's doubleheader will be played at Historic Mirmow Field in Orangeburg with a first pitch set for 1 p.m. while Sunday's doubleheader will be played in Raleigh, N.C.
