Claflin Sweeps Winston-Salem State in Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Claflin University softball team defeated Winston-Salem State 4-3 and 15-6, in a non-conference doubleheader in Wednesday in Winston Salem, N.C. 
 
The wins push the Lady Panthers to .500 on the short season at 3-3.
 
Down 3-1 after five complete in game one, Claflin scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh while holding Winston-Salem State scoreless over the final two innings to pick up the game one run victory.
 
Game two was a different story.  The Lady Panthers put up runs in all five of the shortened contests for the nine run win.
 
Senior Chelsea Hall and sophomore LaKaylin Lee provided Claflin with its major offensive power over the doubleheader.
 
Hall finished the day 3-for-6 with four runs, including two homeruns, three RBIs and five stolen bases.
 
Lee went 2-for-5 with three hits, including a triple, with four runs and one RBI.
 
Chelise Morman and Kayla Cato played huge roles in the success of game two.
 
Morman finished game two with three hits, including two homeruns, and six RBIs.
 
Cato, who went 1-for-4, had a three-run homer in the win.

Tiaria Norman and Lee were the winning pitchers of game one and two, respectively.
 
Claflin will have six days off from competition before returning home to host St. Augustine's in a non-conference doubleheader, next Wednesday, Feb. 15.  First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the Adden Street Field in Orangeburg.
