Claflin Falls to Morehouse in Game Two of SIAC Baseball Series

Charleston, S.C. —   Claflin falls to Morehouse, 6-1 in the middle game of its Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) baseball game Saturday at West Ashley High School in Charleston.
 
The three-game conference series is part of the Low County Classic. The rubber match of the series will be Sunday (March 26) at Collins Park in North Charleston.  First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
 
With the loss, Claflin falls to 7-19 on the season and 1-4 in the SIAC.
 
Morehouse improves to 5-18 and 2-3 in league play.
 
Neftali Reyes scored the Panthers only run of the game while also knocking in one hit.
 
Jonathan Parnell, II had two hits on the day.
 
Jared Maner went 2-for-4 with two runs, a walk and a stolen base to lead Morehouse.
 
Kristopher Skinner had two hits with a run for Morehouse in the win.
 
Torriun Towers was the losing pitcher of record while Anthony Dodd was the winner.
 
With two on in the top of the first, Kaelen Ashford-Jones doubled down the left field line to score Derrick Lewis to give Morehouse its first run of the game.
 
The Tigers put up one additional run in the first and two in third to take a 4-0 lead.
 
Both teams went scoreless over the next one and one-half inning.
 
Reyes led off the bottom of the fifth with a double down the left field line and scored off a throwing error by the Tigers pitcher for the Panthers first run of the game.
 
The Tigers knocked in two more runs in the top of the eighth to stretch its lead to five, 6-1.
 
With two out in the bottom of the eighth, Lyndale Morely hit a single to the right side and Johnny Stevenson walked to put two batters on the pads giving Claflin an opportunity to close the gap but the Panthers could not capitalize.
