Claflin Fall to Francis Marion in Non-Conference Baseball Contest

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University Baseball Team scored six runs over the final three innings but fell just short, dropping a non-conference game to Francis Marion, 6-8, Wednesday at Historic Mirmow Field.
 
The loss drops Claflin to 3-13 on the season.  Francis Marion improves to 18-2.
 
Claflin will return to action tomorrow, Thursday, March 9, when they host the College of Saint Rose in a 4 p.m. non-conference contest.
 
Thursday's contest is a makeup from Tuesday's game which was stopped in the second inning due to a lighting issue.
 
Junior Jeffery Evans, who recorded his first-ever collegiate hit in the top of the eighth, came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with a RBI to lead Claflin.
 
Darrell Langston went 2-for-4 and Lyndale Morely came off the bench to go 1-for-1 with a run.
 
Francis Marion was led by Tee DuBose with two runs, three hits, and two RBIs.  Reese Cooley also scored two runs for the Patriots.
 
Keamond Eisonm,who pitched five and one-third innings allowing four earned runs off nine hits with a strikeout, was the losing pitcher for Claflin while Arien Seymour was the winning pitcher with Cole Hinnant was credited with a save.
 
Francis Marion controlled the game for the first six and one-half innings.  The Panthers did not score their first run until the bottom of the seventh.
 
Down 8-0 heading into bottom of the seventh, Jeturi Brown was hit by Connor Pate to lead off its half of the seventh.  Lyndale Morley then doubled down the left field line to move Brown into scoring position.
 
Craig Hopkins, who came in to pinch hit, grounded out to second base to score Brown for the Panthers first run of the contest. 
 
Claflin placed three additional runners on the base pads and scored two additional runs to end the inning down by five, 8-3.
 
Both teams were scoreless in eighth and the Panthers defense held Francis Marion scoreless in the ninth.
 
Elliott Melton reached base and advanced to second off a throwing error by the Patriots second baseman in the bottom of the ninth.
 
A single by Jonathan Parnell, II scored Melton for the Panthers fourth run, cutting the lead in half.
 
Parnell and Brown scored Claflin fifth and sixth runs of the contest to cut the deficit to two.
 
Evans had one of his hits with two outs and two on placing the winning run on first.
 
Reginald Rogers struck out looking to end the game and the Panthers hopes of avenging an earlier season loss to Francis Marion.
