Claflin Women Falls to Clark Atlanta in SIAC Road Game

Atlanta, Ga. – Clark Atlanta University outscored Claflin University 21-9 in the second quarter en route to a 76-55 in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) East Division win Monday (Jan. 22).
 
With the road loss, Claflin dropped to 12-8 overall and 8-3 in the conference, while Clark Atlanta maintain first place in the division at 10-2 and 12-7 overall.
 
Dominique Williams led Claflin in the losing effort with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds along with three steals. Williams was 8-of-14 from the free throw line in hitting double-figures in scoring for the fourth straight game for the Lady Panthers. Over that span, Williams is averaging 19 points.
 
Joy Okeke was the only other player to score in double-digits for Claflin with 13 points.  Jhanice Stokes had seven points and five rebounds for the Lady Panthers.
 
Marissa Mandeldove of Clark Atlanta led all scorer with 32 points.
 
In the contest, Clark Atlanta used a strong offensive showing in the second quarter, increasing a 21-13 first period lead to 42-22 at the intermission. Clark Atlanta opened the quarter with an 11-2 run to lead 32-15 at the 6:20 mark.
 
Clark Atlanta finished the quarter by outscoring Claflin 10-7 for a 20-points lead, 42-22, at the half.
 
In the second half, Clark Atlanta just barely outscored Claflin by a 34-33 margin.
 
In the contest, the Lady Panthers committed 22 turnovers that resulted 26 points for Clark Atlanta.
 
At the free throw line, Clark Atlanta was 23-of-28 while Claflin hit 16-of-26.
 
Claflin will return home for four straight games, starting Saturday (Jan. 27) against Fort Valley State University at 1:30 p.m.
