Claflin Falls to Tuskegee in Non-Conference Road Game

Tuskegee, Ala.—The Claflin University men's basketball dropped a 55-51 road decision to Tuskegee University.  The loss drops the Panthers to 2-5 on the season, Tuskegee improves to 2-4 overall.
 
This was the second meeting of the season between the teams.  In the earlier meeting (Nov. 17), Claflin defeated Tuskegee, 64-51, in its homecoming game.
 
Senior Triston Thompson dropped in a team-high 13 points with seven rebounds to lead Claflin.  Jaimik Moore scored 11 points with a game-high eight rebounds off the bench.  Brandon Davis was also effective off the bench, contributing seven points in the loss.
 
Tuskegee had three players to score in double-figures led by Kaleb Morton who dropped in a game-high 19 points.  Myles Thomas scored 14 and Riley Hamilton added 13 for the Golden Tigers in the win.
 
Claflin opened the second half aggressively.  The Panthers used an 8-3 run over the first seven-plus minutes of the half to pull within one, 31-30, with 12:33 remaining in the game. 
 
Morton hit a three pointer at the 11:07 mark to culminate a 6-2 run to push the lead back to five, 37-32.
 
Claflin remained poised, using a 6-0 run of their own over the next two minutes to take the one point lead, 38-37, its first since the 7:39 mark of the first half (18-17).
 
The lead was short lived as Gregg Boyd connected on 1-of-2 free throws twenty seconds later to tie the game at 39-all.
 
There were three additional ties before Tuskegee took the lead for good (48-47) on a three pointer by Morton with 1:34 remaining in the contest. 
 
Tuskegee opened the game with a 6-0 run and pushed its lead to as many as nine, 12-3, with 14:23 showing on the clock.
 
The Panthers managed to fight their way back to take the 18-17 lead but the Golden Tigers closed the half on a 10-5 run for the 28-22 half-time lead.
 
Claflin will travel to Chowan University for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) on Saturday (Dec. 1) at 4 p.m.
