Panthers Fall to Lincoln University (PA)

Lincoln University, PA – Lincoln University (PA) ended the Claflin University men's basketball team three-game winning streak on Wednesday (Dec. 19), defeating the Panthers, 82-74, in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) contest.
 
The loss dropped Claflin to 5-8 overall and 4-4 in the CIAA.
 
Danny Brown led four Panthers in double-figures with 18 points. Austin Lawton had a double-double for Claflin with 16 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Triston Thompson with 11 points and Rodney Prichard, who came off the bench to score 10 points.
 
Lincoln was led by Deaquan Williams with a double-double, 20 points-19 rebounds. Cameron Campbell added 17 points.
 
After Claflin cut a 13-point (58-45) lead to 60-54 at the 9:28 mark of the second half, Lincoln used a 10-3 run to extend the lead back to 13, 70-57, with 6:14 left in the game.
 
The six-point deficit would be the closest for the Panthers.
 
Claflin did manage to outscore Lincoln 17-12 down the stretch in losing by the eight-point margin.
 
In the opening half, Claflin jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the first 4:55 minutes of play, but a three-pointer by Campbell pulled the Lions to within five, 17-12, at the 14:31 mark.
 
From that point, Lincoln grab the lead at 23-22 and followed with 10 straight points to increase the lead to 33-22 with 7:08 left before intermission.
 
Claflin was able trim the Lincoln lead to eight at the half, 44-36, outscoring the home team 14-11 over the last seven minutes.
 
The difference in the first half came from three-point range where Lincoln was 6-of-13 (46.3%) while Claflin hit just 4-of-12 (33.3%), and at the free throw line where the Lions chalked up four more points (8-of-11) than Claflin (4-of-10).
 
Claflin will return to action following the holiday break at Winston-Salem State University Jan. 4, 2019 in a CIAA contest.
