Coker Defeats Claflin in Second Meeting of the Season

HARTSVILLE, S.C. (03-13-18) – Coker College snapped a 10-game losing streak on Tuesday (Mar. 13) with a 9-4 win over Claflin University in a non-conference baseball game.
 
The loss ended a two-game win streak for Claflin, now 4-18, heading into its Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series opener against Lane College at Historic Mirmow Field in Orangeburg. The three-game series gets underway on Friday (Mar. 16) with a double-header. Game one is slated for 1 p.m. with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener. The series finale is scheduled for Saturday (Mar. 17) at 12-noon.
 
Coker, which picked its first win since an 8-5 win over the Panthers (Feb. 21) in Orangeburg, improved to 10-11 on the season.
 
The Cobras broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run fifth inning followed by three more runs in the sixth. Coker tacked on a single run in the eighth en route to the win.
 
Trailing 2-0, after two innings, Claflin tied the contest in the top of the third inning on RBI singles from Eric McElveen and Tavion Towers.
 
Coker regained the lead in its bottom half of the third at 3-2, but the Panthers once again tied the contest in the top of the fourth on a double by Darrell Langston that brought home Silvaris Hooks, Jr.
 
Claflin final run of the game came in the seventh when Johnathan Parnell II drove home Towers from third base with a sacrifice fly.
 
The Panthers finished the game with seven hits and did not committed an error. Langston was the top hitter for Claflin on the day with two hits, including the run-scoring double.
 
Brooks Estrada led Coker at the plate, going 3-4 with a home runs and 3RBIs.
