Orangeburg, S.C. -- The Claflin University baseball team fell to North Greenville University (NGU) for the second time this season, losing 14-5 on Wednesday (Apr. 11) at Mirmow Field.

The non-conference loss dropped Claflin to 11-24 on the season, heading into an important Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) East Division series with Clark Atlanta. The three-game series gets underway at Historic Mirmow Field, Friday (Apr. 13) with a single game at 5 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 14), starting at 1 p.m.

Saturday is designated as senior day where the senior members of the baseball team will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony at 12:30 p.m.

NGU improved to 32-6 with the win.

In the contest, the Crusaders scored in every inning except the eighth. NGU led 7-0 before the Panthers reached the scoring column.  Grayland Fowler hit a two-run homer, his first homerun of the season, in the bottom of the fourth inning. The long ball, which gave Fowler 29 RBIs for the season, also brought home Darrell Langston, who opened the inning with a single.

Claflin had three hits in the inning as Clyde Parker, who finished with three hits in the game, doubled with two outs. Parker was left stranded as Harold Smith fouled out to the first basemen.

The Panthers added three more runs in the eighth off a two-run double by Craig Hopkins and a RBI single off the bat of Ashtin Knowles.

Claflin finished the game with seven hits.

NGU, which had 15 hits in the game, was led by Sean Parsons who went 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs.
