Claflin Volleyball Falls to Benedict in Three

Columbia, S.C. -- The Claflin University volleyball team closed out its 2019 non-conference play with a three set loss Monday (Oct. 28) to Benedict at the HRC Arena in Columbia, S.C.  The Lady Tigers swept the Lady Panthers 25-21, 25-11, 26-24.
                                                           
The loss drops Claflin to 6-12 overall.  Benedict improves to 14-10 on the season.
 
The Lady Panthers did not have any players to record double-digit kills on the night. Taylor Drayton was the top offensive producer for Claflin with seven kills. Danelle Branch and Jala Roberts put down five kills while Vianca Cólon Gonzalez put up 10 assists.  Trinity Fierce picked up eight digs to lead the team defensively.
 
Benedict was led by Kayla Stephens and V'Aira Harris with 14 and 12 kills, respectively.  Ashleigh Reeves put up a match-high 38 set assists and Amber Scott had 12 digs in the win.
 
Claflin will return to Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action this Thursday, Oct. 31, when they travel to Fayetteville, N.C., to face Fayetteville State University in a 6 p.m. match in the Felton J. Capel Arena on the campus of Fayetteville State.
