Claflin Volleyball Falls to Livingstone on the Road

Salisbury, N.C. – The Livingstone College Blue Bears defeated the Claflin University Lady Panther 3-1, (23-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-19), in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division volleyball match, Wednesday (Oct. 9) in the New Trent Gym on the campus of Livingstone.
 
The loss snapped a two-game win streak for the Lady Panthers, dropping them to 4-7 overall and even in the CIAA at 3-3.
 
Livingstone improves to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the CIAA with the win.
 
Despite the loss, Claflin managed to out-block Livingstone 11-8 and picked up just four less digs than the Lady Blue Bears (68-64).
 
The Lady Panthers, who finished the game with 41 kills, was led by Taylor Drayton who put down 15.  Erin Preston contributed seven kills and 11 set assists, while Jala Roberts had six kills and a team-high 14 digs. 
 
Sadaiya Edouard recorded five total blocks (1 solo-4 assists) while Briana Reed and Makaylen Crosby had four block-assists each.
 
Victoria Onozie led three Livingstone players in double-digit kills with a match-high 18 kills.  Kya Hunter and Alexia Crutchfield had 13 kills apiece and Bethany Williams had a match-high 17 digs.
 
The Lady Blue Bears had four players to finish with double-digit digs as Onozie and Amari Champion had 13 and Crutchfield had 12 in the win.
 
Claflin will look to regroup this Saturday, when they travel to Charlotte, NC to face the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University in a CIAA Southern Division match.  First serve is set for 2 p.m. Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium on Johnson C. Smith campus.
