Claflin Closeout Road Swing with a Loss to Bowie State

Bowie, Md. – The Claflin University women's basketball team fell to Bowie State, 67-37, Saturday, Dec. 14, to closeout its two-game road swing.  The loss drops the Lady Panthers to 0-9 on the season.  Bowie State remained undefeated on the season at 9-0.
 
The teams will meet again on Saturday, Jan. 11 in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) game in Orangeburg.
 
Claflin will return to action next Wednesday, Dec. 18, when they host St. Augustine's University in a CIAA Southern Division contest.  The game, which is set to tip-off at 2 p.m., is free and open to the public and will be held at Tullis Arena inside the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Wellness Complex.
 
The Lady Panthers, who was held to a season-low 43.8% from the charity stripe, shot 28.6 from both the field and behind the 3-point arc while Bowie State shot 78.3 from the charity-stripe and 31.9 from the field (22.7-3-PT%).
 
Dionna Long was the lone double-digit scorer for the Lady panthers with a career-high 20 points.  Long had a well-balanced game for Claflin, finishing with five rebounds and four steals.
 
Shakarri Mack contributed eight points with five rebounds and Autheria Dantzler added five rebounds in the loss.
 
Kyaja Williams led three Bowie State players in figures with a game-high 21 points.  Williams recorded a double-double for the contest, finishing with 17 rebounds.
 
Dynaisha Christian dropped in 14 points with seven rebounds and Drew Calhoun added 10 points with seven rebounds for the Bulldogs in the win.
 
Claflin trailed 35-18 at the half.
