Claflin Baseball Team Falls to Lincoln Memorial University

Orangeburg, S.C. – The Claflin University baseball team dropped both games of a double-header with Lincoln Memorial University (5-4, 10-1) at Historic Mirmow Field on Monday (Feb. 4).
 
Claflin is now 2-2 on the season, while Lincoln Memorial improved to 2-3.
 
In the double-header opener, the contest went down to the final out. The Panthers trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh-inning with two outs and bases loaded.
 
The stage was set with Eric McElveen, who hit a two-run homer earlier in the game, at the plate. McElveen grounded out to short-stop to end the game. McElveen had two hits in the game.
 
Craig Hopkins added two hits and a RBI for the Panthers, which finished the game with nine hits.
 
Marco Rios led Lincoln Memorial with a hit and 2 RBIs.
 
Eli Wright picked up the win for Lincoln Memorial, while Christian Buford suffered the loss for Claflin.
 
In the seocnd game, the Panthers offense out-hit Lincoln Memorial by a 9-6 margin, but fell short in the run department.
 
Jake Grenus picked up the win on the mound for Lincoln Memorial, while Torrium Towers took the loss for Claflin.
 
Kyrig Woods produced Claflin only run of the game, an RBI double.
 
Lincoln Memorial was led offensively by Brent Richey and Seth Hunt with a home run each.
 
Claflin will play host to Salem University in a three-game series this weekend at Historic Mirmow. Action gets underway on Friday (Feb. 8) with the series-opener at 5 p.m. followed by second game on Saturday (Feb. 9) at 2 p.m. The series wraps up on Sunday (Feb. 10) at 1 p.m.
