Fields Record Seventh Double-Double of the Season in Loss to Fayetteville State

Orangeburg, S.C. – Graduate guard Ashley Fields recorded her seventh double-double of the season but that wasn't enough as Fayetteville State University defeated Claflin University, 69-55, in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest in Tullis Arena.
 
The loss drops the Lady Panthers to 12-11 overall and 8-7 in the CIAA.  Fayetteville State improved to 13-7, 9-4 in the conference.
 
Fields led all scorers and rebounders with 19 points-14 rebounds.  She also had two steals in the contest.  Fields was also honored before the game as the Claflin women's basketball nominee for the Lowe's CIAA Senior CLASS Award.
 
Dashia Jackson was the next highest scorer for Claflin with eight points.  Jackson finished the game with five rebounds and three assists.
 
Orangeburg, S.C. native Autheria Dantzler came off the bench to contributed seven points in the loss.
 
Fayetteville State had four players to finish in double-figures with Shantel Bennett leading the way with 14.
 
Jasmine Covington had 13 with four rebounds while Darria Hewitt recorded a double-double, 12 points-11 rebounds.
 
Katisha Hyman rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10.
 
Claflin trailed Fayetteville State 35-20 at intermission.
 
The Lady Panthers will return to action this Thursday, Feb. 7, when they host Winston-Salem State University for Military Appreciation Day.  It will also be blackout night and fans are encouraged to wear black to the 7:30 p.m. contest.
