Claflin Splits Non-conference Softball Double Header with North Greenville

Orangeburg, SC – The Claflin University softball team split a non-conference double header Wednesday (Mar. 20) with North Greenville University (NGU) winning game one 3-1 and dropping game two 6-0 at Adden Street Field in Orangeburg.

After NGU (9-13) put up one run in the top of the first, Claflin (20-13) scored two runs in its half of the inning to take the 2-1 advantage.  The Lady Panthers put up one additional run in the bottom of the third to take the 3-1 lead.

Despite having several opportunities, neither team managed to cross the plate over the final four innings, thus giving Claflin the two-run victory.

LaKaylin Lee went 2-for-4 with two runs to lead Claflin in the win.  Bre'Zhay Chambers went 4.2 innings in picking up the win game one while Shaniya Thomas came in for the final 2.1 innings in picking up her fifth save of the season.

Game two belonged solely to NGU.  The Crusaders knocked out 12 hits held Claflin to just three in the contest.

NGU put up runs in four-of-seven innings.  The Crusaders scored two runs in each of the first and third, and one run each in the first and third innings en route to the six-run shutout.

Kadasia Damon, Chaston Huntly and Jasmine Squirewell recorded on hit each for Claflin.

LaKaylin Lee, who pitched 3.2 innings, giving up five runs and a walk, was credited with the loss.

Claflin will return to Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play this Saturday (Mar. 23) when they host Fayetteville State University in a double header. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Adden Street Field.
