Claflin Defeats Clark-Atlanta in a Road Double Header

Atlanta, Ga. – The Claflin University baseball team won both games of a double header at Clark Atlanta University, taking game one 6-3 and shutting out Clark Atlanta 8-0 in game two on Saturday (Arp. 13) at Bill Evans Field in Atlanta.
 
With the pair of victories, Claflin, ranked third in the latest Black College Nines HBCU Small College Poll, improved to 22-10 on the season.
 
Claflin posted eight hits with four RBIs and six walks as a team in the opening game.  Clyde Parker paced the Panthers in the contest.  Parker reached base on all four at-bats, two via hits and two via walks.  He finished the game 2-for-2 with a run, two walks and a RBI.
 
Molik Brown went 2-for-4 with one run while Jalen Sprull finished with two runs.
 
Claflin got contributions from Gerardic Dobbs and Craig Hopkins who finished with one hit and two RBIs and one hit and two runs, respectively.
 
Makai Holloway had five strikeouts in picking up his fifth win of the season on the mound and Eric Dubose picked up his first save of the season.
 
The Panthers offense remained solid in game two finishing with seven hits including two home runs and seven RBIs.
 
Sprull went 2-for-4 with two runs, including a home run with one RBI while Dobbs finished with a home run and two RBIs in game two. 
 
Grayland Fowler also had a solid outing in game two going 2-for-4 with a run.
 
Dillon Parker had six hits and seven strikeouts in shutting out Clark Atlanta for his fifth win of the season.  Jamal Devine had one strikeout and no hits in one inning in relief.
 
Claflin will return to action next Thursday (Apr. 18), when they travel to Petersburg, Va. to face Virginia State University in a double header.  The contests will be the first of six straight contests at Virginia State.  The Panthers will also face the Trojans in double headers on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 19 and 20. 
 
Claflin will return home on Monday, Apr. 22 to host Benedict in a 6 p.m. single game.  It will senior day at Historic Mirmow Field with a pre-game senior presentation occurring at 5:30 p.m.
