UNC-Pembroke Sweeps Claflin in PBC Series

Pembroke, N.C. (3-1-2020)– The UNC-Pembroke baseball team completed the three-game sweep of Claflin University in a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) weekend series, defeating the Panthers 26-1 on Sunday (Mar. 1).
 
The loss extended Claflin losing streak to three games, dropping the Panthers to 4-10 overall and winless in the PBC at 0-8. The Panthers will take a short break from conference action on Tuesday (Mar. 3), hosting Davis & Elkins College of the Mountain East Conference in a mid-week game. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at Historic Mirmow Field.
 
With the win, UNC-Pembroke lifted its season record to 13-5 and 7-2.
 
The Braves took control of the game in the bottom of the first inning scoring finishing with eight runs. UNC-Pembroke followed the first-inning offensive output with a 10-run second. The Braves reached the scoreboard in every inning except for the third and fourth.
 
UNC-Pembroke had 27 hits on the day that included five home runs.
 
Jarratt Mobley led the UNC-Pembroke offensive attack, going 5-for-6 with two home runs and 6 RBIs. Ethan Baucom went 4-for-7 with 3 RBIs, Alex Simpson was 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs and Garrett Littlejohn contributed 3-for-6 at the plate with a home run and 4RBIs.
 
The Panthers, which managed only two hits, received a solo home run from Gabriel Rentas in the second inning. Jalen Sprull collected the other Claflin hit, a single.
