ORANGEBURG, SC - The next chapter of Claflin Lady Panthers basketball is ready to begin as the team announced its 2022-23 schedule. In addition to a thrilling slate of Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), Lady Panthers basketball fans will be treated to an exciting set of non-conference games during the first season under head coach Terrence Jenkins.
There's a lot to be excited about heading into the upcoming season. In addition to entering a new era with a new head coach, the Lady Panthers also ended last season as one of the hottest teams in the CIAA. The Lady Panthers finished the season with wins in two of their final three games of the 2021-22 season. In addition to defeating the CIAA Southern Division champion Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls, the Lady Panthers went on to up the seventh-seeded Virginia Union Lady Panthers in the opening round of the 2021-22 CIAA Women's Basketball Championship Tournament.
One of the highlights of the upcoming season will be the Lady Panthers' line-up of non-conference opponents. After opening the season at North Greenville (November 14th), the Lady Panthers will open home court in a major way as they host Morris College for their 2022 Homecoming on November 19
th. The team will follow that effort with a road trip to some familiar territory when they head to Augusta, Georgia to take on former Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foe, e. The team will close out November in a big way when they head to Aiken, South Carolina to take on the USC-Aiken Pacers (November 28th). The team will carry their non-conference slate into December with games vs. Augusta (December 1
st), at Coker (December 3
rd), and at home vs. Paine (December 5
th). The team will close the December portion of their non-conference slate when they host the Carolina University Bruins (December 12
th). While most of the remaining schedule will consist of conference games, the Lady Panthers will make time to take on their rival Benedict Lady Tigers on February 2nd. With a thrilling non-conference schedule such as this one, fans are in store for some great play from the Lady Panthers.
One of the team's main goals in the upcoming season will be its pursuit of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship. The team will open conference play in December when they host the Shaw Lady Bears. The game will be a part of a five-game home stand during the month. The Lady Panthers will also host Elizabeth City State and Virginia State before the Christmas break. In January, the Lady Panthers will return to conference action with a four-game road stretch that will include games at Virginia Union (January 5
th), Bowie State (January 7
th), at reigning conference champion Lincoln (Pa.) (January 9
th), and the team will open CIAA Southern Division play at Livingstone (January 14
th). The Lady Panthers will return home on January 18
th when they host Winston-Salem State University on Greek Night. The team will return to the road at Saint Augustine's (January 21
st) and at Fayetteville State (January 26
th) before closing the month in grand fashion. The Lady Panthers will host Johnson C. Smith in the second annual PAWSUp HBCU Classic. In February, the Lady Panthers will close the regular season with a full slate of division games. After opening the month at Benedict, the team will host Livingstone (February 4
th) before returning to the road to take on Winston-Salem State (February 9
th). The Lady Panthers will close home court with back-to-back home games against Saint Augustine's (February 11
th) before honoring its seniors on Senior Night against Fayetteville State (February 15
th). The Lady Panthers will close the regular season on the road when they head to nearby Charlotte, North Carolina to face Johnson C. Smith (February 18
th).
