Lady Panthers Place 11th at 2023 CIAA Women's Cross Country Championship
SALEM, VA - The Claflin University men's and women's cross-country teams put on their best efforts at the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's and Women's Cross-Country Championship Meet, Thursday afternoon. When the dust settled, the Lady Panthers finished 11
th at the meet while the Panthers earned a seventh-placed finish.
The Lady Panthers earned their 11
th place finish after totaling 277 points in the women's 5K run. Claflin junior
Madison McDonald earned a 32
nd place finish in the women's 5K run with a 22:33.7. Freshman Layla Spencer added a 54
th place finish when she recorded a 25:38.9. Sophomore
Pheijana Burnside placed 55
th with a 25:39.8 while senior
Shekinah Duffin placed 66
th with a 28:13.6.
The Panthers earned their seventh-place finish with 151 total points in the men's 8K run. Claflin sophomore Jakarriez Sanders led the way with a 21
st place finish in 29:58.3. Senior Caleb Patterson added a 28
th-place finish with a 29:58.3. Junior Zion Murry was close behind, placing 29
th with a 31:14.2. Sophomore Reginald Gore rounded the scoring for the Panthers with a 31:35.2.
The efforts close out the cross-country season for the Lady Panthers and the Panthers. From here, team members will turn their attentions to the upcoming indoor and outdoor track & field seasons.
