ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Panthers (0-11, 0-7 PBC) showed some signs of great play in a tough 13-3 loss to the Columbus State Cougars (12-3, 6-1 PBC), Saturday afternoon. The Panthers were able to get three runs scored in just six hits, but the team could not keep up with the hard-hitting Cougars.
As a team, the Panthers played a solid overall game. The team totaled six hits in the game. Claflin senior third base
Jajuan Curry led the way for the Panthers with a two-for-three batting performance. Junior centerfielder
Duane Henderson, Jr. added a one-for-three performance with two runs batted in (RBI).
Senior pitcher
Kyle Hawkins (0-3) got the start and took the pitching loss. He went 5.2 innings with only one walk allowed in 30 batters faced.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 0-11 overall and 0-7 in Peach Belt Conference play. The two teams would go on to close out the doubleheader later in the day.
