MILLERSVILLE, PA - The Claflin Panthers (1-1) put on a dominating performance when the team took an 87-47 win over the Mansfield Mounties (0-2). It was a stifling defensive effort that led the Panthers to the win as the team held the Mounties to shooting just 34.0% (17-of-50) from the floor and forced 26 turnovers in the win.
Behind their defensive effort, the Panthers were also able to put on an impressive offensive performance. As a team, the Panthers totaled 87 points and shot 45.0% (18-of-40) from the floor. As usual, the Panthers had a balanced offensive attack. Sophomore guard
Cristian Sanon led the way when he came off the bench for 16 points to lead the Panthers. Senior guards
Gregory Spurlock and
Michael Shuler both added 15 points each in the win. Junior forward
HowVante Hutcherson nearly recorded a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 1-1 to start the season. The team will return to action, Wednesday, when they head to Harrogate, Tennessee to take on the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters.
