AIKEN, SC - The Claflin Panthers (3-4) had little work with, but it was enough for the team to claim a 100-94 win over the #11 USC Aiken Pacers (4-2), Saturday afternoon. Though only eight Panthers took the court in the game, the Panthers took the win behind an efficient, balanced offensive attack.
The Panthers had one of their top offensive efforts of the season to claim the win. The team shot a scorching hot 55.0% (33-of-60) from the floor. When the dust settled, four Panthers reached double-digit scoring in the game. Claflin senior guard
Gregory Spurlock led the way with 21 points and three assists. Senior guard
John Whitehead, III, added 20 points with three rebounds, and an assist. Senior guard
Damerius Wash nearly pulled off a double-double with 19 points and eight rebounds in the game. Senior guard
Jailen Williams added 11 points with five assists, and five rebounds while junior center
HowVante Hutcherson rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points and two rebounds.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 3-4 overall. The win will give the team a big boost heading into their first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) game of the season. On Saturday, the Panthers will head to Richmond, Virginia to take on Virginia Union.
