ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Panthers (1-28, 0-13 PBC) looked good early in a tough 15-3 loss to the Flagler Saints (13-17, 6-7 PBC), Friday evening. After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Panthers fell short later in the loss.
The Panthers played a solid game but could not overcome some of their own miscues in the loss. As a team, the Panthers finished the game with five hits while allowing just seven hits to the Saints. Unfortunately, five hit batters and eight walks all proved costly in the loss. Claflin junior catcher D.J. Mugenast led the way for the team with a two-for-three batting effort that included his first double of the season and a run scored. Senior centerfielder
Kobe Miller went one-for-three with a leadoff triple.
Claflin freshman
Anthony Mack (0-6) got the pitching start. He went 2.1 innings and he finished the game with three strikeouts. Senior
Khalil Hassan added two innings with three strikeouts as well and fellow freshman
Adrian Wiggins added 2.2 innings with two strikeouts.
The Panthers and the Saints will return to Historic Mirmow Field to complete the weekend series with a doubleheader tomorrow. For more information on Panthers baseball, contact the Claflin University Office of Athletics Media Relations at (803) 535-5548 or log on to
