ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Panthers (1-17) gave one of their best efforts of the season in a hard-fought 12-7 extra-inning loss to the Savannah State Tigers (12-2), Tuesday afternoon. After taking a 6-7 deficit into the ninth inning, Claflin junior left fielder
Micah Shivers scored on a Savannah State fielding error to tie the game and sent it into extra innings. However, the team allowed five unanswered 10
th-inning runs to the Tigers to take the heartbreaking loss.
The Panthers took advantage of every opportunity offered to them in the game. The team scored seven runs on six hits. Claflin senior outfielder
Kobe Miller led the way with a one-for-five batting performance with two runs batted in and a sacrifice hit. Junior left fielder
Micah Shivers went two-for-five with two runs scored.
The loss came despite some great Claflin pitching. Panther freshman
Jalen Dockett (0-3) did the bulk of the work, throwing six innings and finishing with six runs allowed (one earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts. Claflin junior
Michael Coit got the start and he went four innings. He finished with six runs allowed (four earned) with a strikeout.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 1-17 on the season.
