FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Claflin Panthers (17-9, 10-5 CIAA) got a dramatic 89-87 overtime road win over the Fayetteville State Broncos (20-7, 12-4 CIAA), Wednesday afternoon. Claflin junior guard
Guy Fauntleroy hit a lay-up at the buzzer to send the Panthers to their fourth straight win and ended Fayetteville State's 11-game winning streak.
The Panthers took the win behind another balanced scoring attack. The team had another balanced attack to claim the win as five Claflin players reached double-digit scoring in the win. Senior forward
John Whitehead, III, led the way with 20 points, including hitting four three-pointers in the game. Fauntleroy added 15 points as well. Senior guard
Jailen Williams added 14 points while junior
Cristian Sanon who added 11 points off the bench.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 17-9 overall and 10-5 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will wrap up the 2024-25 regular season, Saturday, when they host the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls in a Senior Day game.
