ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (22-22) broke out for a big 11-3 win over the Virginia State Trojans (13-13) to advance to the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship Tournament. The Lady Panthers put on an offensive showcase to take the win and advanced in the winner's bracket of the tournament.
As a team, the Lady Panthers did a great job at the plate. The team totaled 12 hits in the game, including a three-for-three batting performance from junior
Aniyah Jackson. She also added a sacrifice fly as well. When the game ended, she recorded three runs scored with a run batted in (RBI). Sophomore outfielder
Jordan Tolen was also two-for-two at the plate with two runs scored.
Claflin sophomore
Ava Brown (6-5) got the start and the pitching win. She threw all five innings of the game and she finished with just four hits and three runs allowed (one earned). She also added four strikeouts.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 22-22. The team will advance to the quarterfinal round of the tournament where they will take on the Bowie State Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m., tomorrow.
