RALEIGH, NC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (11-11, 2-1 CIAA) got back to their winning ways when the team took a dominating 9-1 win over the Virginia Union (8-18, 7-1 CIAA) Panthers. The Lady Panthers took the win behind one of their best hitting performances of the season.
As a team, the Lady Panthers did most of their damage at the plate. The team totaled 14 hits, including a pair of extra base hits. Senior first base
Aniyah Jackson led the way when she went three-for-five with a double and two runs scored in the game. Junior outfielder
Lauryn Foster added a one-for-four effort with a run scored and two runs batted in (RBI).
Claflin freshman pitcher
Shantia Haymer (5-3) put on a dominating performance. She started the game and threw five innings. She finished the game with only one run allowed (one earned) and she added a strikeout. Sophomore
Sydra Pendleton came in for two innings and she finished the game with no runs allowed.
with the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 11-11 overall and 2-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will return to action later today when they take on the Bluefield State Big Blue.
